Happy New Year – Cheers to your Safety and Success in 2013!

Each year we make resolutions to increase sales, increase productivity, decrease turnover, and on and on. But, where does safety fall in our resolutions? Founded in 1911, The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) is the oldest safety association. Globally, ASSE helps organizations create safer work environments; preventing injuries, illnesses and fatalities. ASSE finds that organizations with the strongest safety programs also enjoy the most productivity (increased sales), highest employee satisfaction (decreased turn over) and best reputations within their communities.

The secret to a strong safety program is having trained first responders as members of your safety team. The minimum standard is certifying your team in CPR, AED and First Aid. The American Heart Association has a certification program that can be completed in a day. A typical course takes 4-6 hours to complete. To maintain your certification this training should be renewed every two years. Organizations that run 24 shifts, have remote worksites or operate heavy machinery should have State Certified First Responders on their safetyteam. This is a 48 hour training program that requires 8 hours of annual continuing education to maintain certification standards.

Whether you are training your team in CPR or as First Responders, the great news is that this training can be accomplished onsite – allowing your team to miss less work and utilize your rescue equipment. If you have questions about what level of training is right for your organization email Kristi@heartlinkcpr.com or call 503.269.7996.

Happy New Year – Cheers to your Safety and Success in 2013!
